Why Won’t It Snow?

Welcome to December. My question – Why won’t it snow already?! But that’s not the least of the problems – Winter Quarter begins… If it’s gonna be cold, it should just snow already!! Maybe we could have like 2 feet of snow with huge drifts and stuff. That would be fun. That reminds me of the New Years snow storm we had last year. On the urging of my mother, I left for school a day early to miss the storm. Good thing I did. By the time I got to scenic Terre Haute, the exit was so covered in snow, I almost missed it.

Winter is definitely my favorite season. The snow seems to always make everything look so clean and innocent, even if it isn’t. Kind of what people try to do to themselves in a way. When two people first meet, they put on themselves something like a “first snow” so that they each look clean and innocent. But then there’s always that day where the weather warms up and half the snow melts. The other half turns into that nasty brown sludge. In the end, that person ends up looking worse than they really are because of how good they looked before.

That upsets me how fake so many people are. You really can’t be sure you know anybody anymore. That day inevitably comes when the snow melts and the person you were looking at before now seems to be totally different. Even if they really are good, that day where you maybe just see into a dark past seems to alter your perception permanently, makes you constantly wonder “what else don’t I know about them?” Maybe that’s just me… but I see it happen with others too. And it’s really not a good thing. Guess it’s just a weird part of human nature.

The worst about putting on a different face than a person really is seems to be to be the fraternity/sorority crowd. Go to a party or bar with these groups present. Watch how people posture and pose and primp and act like macho studs or beautiful seductresses (or in many cases even easy airheads). Wouldn’t it be better if people were just themselves? But in out society, for some reason, being yourself seems to be looked down upon. If you don’t wear clothes from The Gap or Old Navy, if you aren’t in a fraternity/sorority, if you don’t have that herd mentality and you don’t do and say and act like the crowd does, you are immediately an outcast.

Wow… this sure kinda turned into a rant didn’t it? Guess I just wish people would accept others for being themselves, whether that means they are in a fraternity or not, listen to gothic industrial music or not, Christian or not, whatever. Also, I wish that women would remember to look for those guys standing in the corner… the ones that maybe aren’t so outgoing as Joe Fraternity, but that will be warm and caring and treat you like you should be treated.

I know not all women ignore those types of guys. Just seems like most in college do. I sincerely apologize to those women reading this who are not like this. I admit that there are many guys who go for women in the same and ignore the good kind ones.

Well, it’s time to do homework now. Oh the bane of being a college student – homework.
