Craziness Abounds

Well the big news yesterday (I had an entry set to go yesterday but my browser crashed and lost it) was about the Pentagon’s proposed Terror Market where ‘investors’ could bid “on what might happen in the Middle East in terms of economics, civil and military affairs or specific events, such as terrorist attacks.” The idea was to make this a possible way to predict future terror attacks. That’s just.. disgusting, people profiting directly off of terror attacks and assassinations. At least soem Democrats had the stones to attack it and now the Pentagon says they’ll disband the program. Makes you wonder how many other crazy schemes are actually up and running just because no one bothered to report on them…

Here’s a great blog entry over on The Blog From Another Dimension (now on the Blogroll) about Bush’s (lack of) character and an even better follow up:

What would you think if you knew someone like this? A privileged kid, family pulling strings to get him into and out of everything, admonishing others for shirking duties and then shirking his own in a far less honest way. The criminal record, the hazings, the hypocrisy. Knowing someone like this personally, would you think he would ever be capable of holding a position of great responsibility? How about being the leader of the free world?

Bush, by the way, is the first President of the United States to enter office with a criminal record. Quite a distinction. But more on his non-”youthful indiscretion” years later.

Here’s an interesting article. Some researchers decided to try and find out what makes up a political conservative:

at the core of political conservatism is the resistance to change and a tolerance for inequality, and that some of the common psychological factors linked to political conservatism include:
* Fear and aggression
* Dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity
* Uncertainty avoidance
* Need for cognitive closure
* Terror management
(source: Researchers help define what makes a political conservative)

Paul Krugman has a very interesting op-ed on why Tony Blair is in seriously deep shit for hyping intelligence to drag Britain into war, yet while Bush is in trouble, it’s not nearly as bad. Here’s a hint: It’s more proof that our national media is hardly liberal and many Americans prefer style over substance.

The next chunk is almost lifted from Blah3 but it’s important enough to post in full. Put the next three quoted articles together and tell me if you feel safe with Bush running things…

The Department of Homeland Security is warning that Islamic extremists might be plotting suicide airliner hijackings to be carried out before the end of the summer, with possible targets including sites in Britain, Italy, Australia or the eastern United States.
(source: Officials: Suicide airliner hijackings possible)
Despite renewed warnings about possible airline hijackings, the Transportation Security Administration has alerted federal air marshals that as of Friday they will no longer be covering cross-country or international flights, MSNBC.com has learned. The decision to drop coverage on flights that many experts consider to be at the highest risk of attack apparently stems from a policy decision to rework schedules so that air marshals don’t have to incur the expense of staying overnight in hotels.
(source: Air marshals pulled from key flights)
It’s billed as a working vacation, but fund-raisers — at the rate of one every five days — will fill President Bush’s schedule during his monthlong stay in August at his Texas ranch.

Continuing his drive to raise at least $170 million, seeking a Republican nomination for which he faces no opponent, Bush is mixing public policy events, mostly on the West Coast, with six fund-raisers in Colorado, California, Oregon, Washington and Minnesota. The practice allows the administration, in certain cases, to bill taxpayers for half the travel costs of the political activity.
(source: Bush to Stay at Texas Ranch a Month)

It scares the hell out of me to say this, but is anyone being reminded of the summer of 2001? If there’s another attack, will Americans have any choice but to hold Bush responsible for once, or will they sit back and artifically prop up his poll numbers again? (just in time for next year’s elections I suppose).

This is scary shit. Jeebus, we need to get this squatter out of the White House ASAP before our whole country comes tumbling down around us.

Oh yeah, and will Bush even hold a news conference before he goes off on his vacation? He’s only held 8 solo news conferences since he became President you know. Makes you wonder if his handlers trust him to speak on his own….

On Update: It looks like he did have a press conference today but it was full of the typical lies, deceptions and weaseling. Surprise surprise. Blog from Another Dimension has coverage.

This Is Not America

Tucsonans “support the troops” by assaulting 67-year old Air Force Veteran at Clear Channel rally.

“Bill” made a calculated risk in attending the so-called “support our troops” rally which was held in Tucson at Reid Park on March 29, 2003. As a veteran, he wanted to be a voice of reason, given that many in attendance had not had the opportunity to witness the true horrors of what may be in store for the world as a result of the government’s current policy of pre-emptive military action. He knew he would be alone in his act of trying to persuade those who could not possibly fathom the amount of responsibility he himself had accepted during “the good fight”, but was determined to make his view known.

He attended the Support Our Troops Rally and listened to speeches heavy with religious and nationalistic fervor. Clean cut and reserved, the dapper looking incidental provocateur said he began wondering if this was how the Hitler rallies started in the Germany of 70 years ago.

Shortly before Noon, he decided to retrieve the sign he had made himself specifically for this rally which read: “Mr. President: American Troops Serve to Defend Liberty, not to fight for Oil!” He was attacked almost immediately upon entering the crowd with his broom-stick mounted sign, and the mob of 20-30 people who beat him had this effect on the man who had served his country in staving off the perceived Soviet aggression:

“I went into this rally afraid that America was drifting into fascism, and went away from it knowing that we have arrived.”

We have arrived…. When anyone who dares express dissent and speak out against this administration is beaten by a crowd of “Support our troops” ralliers it’s obvious this is no longer the America we grew up thinking it was.

I only hope our colelctive sanity comes back before it’s too late.

Putting the “Fun” in “Fundamentalist”!

ohhhh wow. This is a FUN one! I got my first right wing/fundamentalist comment on my site since my second ever post back when I didn’t have comments and just had a crappy message board.

Back on my post about Dean’s 16 Questions for the President (click the link to see the comment in person) I got the following comment:

Mr. Dean I need to know why you insist on the necessity of furthering the moral decay in this country by allowing homosexuals to have civil unions in your state?

There is a direct prohibition on this behavior within the christian viewpoint and literature.

Please answer me this question also Why are people who are opposed to homosexuality deemed “homophobic”. I do not understand the statement as I have no fear of homosexuals just a strong disagreement with their lifestyle and beliefs.

I have no fear walls does this make me a “wallophobe”???

Posted by: Robert Hutson on July 26, 2003 08:34 AM

Well now isn’t THAT fun? This guy not only thinks this is Howard Dean’s homepage but he’s unclear on why he’s a homophobe. ANyway, I thought I’d respond personally to him. Here’s what I had to say. I guess I made the baby Jesus cry….

I’m curious why you left this comment on my personal blog. This is not Howard Dean’s blog. That should have been pretty obvious but from anyone who has their head stuck so far inside the bible that they can’t read I guess that doesn’t surprise me.

I’m not gay, but I have friends and aquaintances that are. I’m curious why you think allowing civil unions furthers “moral decay”? It’s not like there’s some “homosexual agenda” (no matter what Pat Robertson tells you) that’s out to getcha. They are normal people like you and me and among some of the nicest and most caring and considerate people I’ve ever met. There are a lot of so-called “Christains” that are so full of hate they could learn something from them about love and acceptance for those different than yourself. It’s sad to see people so afraid of a changing world and a more accepting world that they decide to hate anyone that is different or that challenges their world view.

But hey you gave me a great laugh seeing a right wing fundie posting on my site thinking it was Howard Dean’s site. If all right wingers are as clueless as you, Dean winning the presidency in ‘04 should be a cakewalk!

Well I should be going now. I’m sure in your eyes I’ve made the baby Jesus cry and that you’ll pray for me. Good luck!

Sincerely
-Not Howard Dean from Not Howard Dean’s Website (duh!)

Ahhh fundies. What… fun they are. I figured you all would get a chuckle out of that one. :)

A Sorted List Of Bush’s Lies & Deceptions

Once again, Howard Dean shows why he’s my man for President. Read The President Has Misled Us for a large HUGE rundown of Bush’s lies to and misleading of America. Or keep reading for about 1/3 of them that I picked out as my favorites (or least favorites, depending on how you look at it).

Bush’s lies: They’re not just about war.

Progressive Fantasy Dinner

Here’s something I’d LOVE to do. Sit down to dinner with Bill Clinton, James Carville, Howard Dean and Hunter S. Thompson. Talk about everything. Politics, religion, social issues, the state of the world, the environment, sports, music, art… everything. Record the whole thing on video.

Imagine the ideas and the commentary that would come out of a dinner like that. I’m sure some people would disagree with my choices. The Greens would want Ralph Nader there. SOme people woulld disagree with having Dean there. Thompson would always ruffle some feathers. But this is my Progressive Fantasy Dinner, so nya :p hehe

Speaking of Hunter Thompson, he’s back and better than ever on ESPN.com’s Page 2. His latest column is a masterpiece. It literally nearly brought tears to my eyes.

But wow! This goofy child president we have on our hands now. He is demonstrably a fool and a failure, and this is only the summer of ‘03. By the summer of 2004, he might not even be living in the White House. Gone, gone, like the snows of yesteryear.

The Rumsfield-Cheney axis has self-destructed right in front of our eyes, along with the once-proud Perle-Wolfowitz bund that is turning to wax. They somehow managed to blow it all, like a gang of kids on a looting spree, between January and July, or even less. It is genuinely incredible. The U.S. Treasury is empty, we are losing that stupid, fraudulent chickencrap War in Iraq, and every country in the world except a handful of Corrupt Brits despises us. We are losers, and that is the one unforgiveable sin in America.

The American nation is in the worst condition I can remember in my lifetime, and our prospects for the immediate future are even worse. I am surprised and embarrassed to be a part of the first American generation to leave the country in far worse shape than it was when we first came into it.

And the hosers at ESPN hired Rush Limbaugh for thier Sunday Night NFL show. Supposedly he’ll just be talking about sports and representing “the fan”. Yeah, the WASP fans that get all frothy at the mouth at the idea of anything progressive.

Who wouldn’t like to see both Limbaugh and Hutner Thompson in a round table, both ‘representing the fan’ on ESPN NFL Sunday Night. I would pay good money to see those two face off. Thompson would eat Rush for lunch and still have room to snack on the thinly disguised Republican Dan Patrick.

Hello! Have You Pissed Off The CIA Today?

Bush has!!

Josh Marshall over at Talkign Points Memo (a better political commentary blog than I could ever have even in my dreams) brings together some good info (scroll down a tad to “Interesting insider info…”) about the building CIA/White House showdown and how it looks like if anyone can take down Bush & Co. for his lies, it’s the CIA

— and the war has just begun, intelligence community sources warn. The Iraq/Niger debacle is but one of “a whole series of stories which are ready to break”, a source told us today, adding, “I’ve never seen such hostility and disdain as now being expressed between the White House and the CIA. Never…”
(source:Talking Points Memo

Speakign of intelligence, know that 9/11 report that the White House has been fighting tooth and nail to keep from being released? Wanna know why?

The report of the joint congressional inquiry into the suicide hijackings on Sept. 11, 2001, to be published Thursday, reveals U.S. intelligence had no evidence that the Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein was involved in the attacks, or that it had supported al-Qaida, United Press International has learned.

“The report shows there is no link between Iraq and al-Qaida,” said a government official who has seen the report.

Former Democratic Georgia Sen. Max Cleland, who was a member of the joint congressional committee that produced the report, confirmed the official’s statement.

Asked whether he believed the report will reveal that there was no connection between al-Qaida and Iraq, Cleland replied: “I do … There’s no connection, and that’s been confirmed by some of (al-Qaida leader Osama) bin Laden’s terrorist followers.”

The revelation is likely to embarrass the Bush administration, which made links between Saddam’s support for bin Laden — and the attendant possibility that Iraq might supply al-Qaida with weapons of mass destruction — a major plank of its case for war.

“The administration sold the connection (between Iraq and al-Qaida) to scare the pants off the American people and justify the war,” said Cleland. “What you’ve seen here is the manipulation of intelligence for political ends.”
(source:9/11 report: No Iraq link to al-Qaida

Even intelligent people like my mom and dad were led to beleive the lie that Iraq and al-Qaida were in bed together. I tried hard to convince them that most intelligence sources said that wasn’t true, but they believed the President’s lies anyway. And those lies (along with many others) got us into a WAR where Americans are still dieing.

So now you can see why Bush & Co. were trying so hard not to release that report. If it had been released in January when it was completed, Bush wouldn’t have been able to scare the American people with the lies that Saddam and Osama work together. If this report had come out in January, oen of the major cases for war made by Bush, Cheney, Rummy and Wolfowitz would have been shot down before the war started.

But what’s the front page story on My Yahoo today? The U.S. will release pictures of Saddam’s dead sons. Must be that damn liberal media again, right?

But now that we’re in Iraq, Wolfowitz says that WMDs are a secondary issue. Ummm excuse me. Secondary issue? But wasn’t that the main reason you told us we should even GO THERE?!?! Are the majority of American people so stupid that they won’t even bother to question THIS? Lord I hope not.

But we know how Bush * Co. operates. If you speak out against them, they will punish you. After retired ambassador Joseph Wilson in effect broke the Niger Uranium lie, two White House sources informed columnist/patsy Bob Novak that Wilson’s wife is an undercover CIA operative workign on WMD searches - effectively blwoing her cover. THIS IS A FEDERAL CRIME.

Hey, at least trust in Bush is ebbing< finally. On that note, go read the column Lying — a Bush Family Value. It’s very good.

GOP Frets About Bush Re-Election Chances

GOP Frets About Bush Re-Election Chances

“Of course it alarms me to see his poll figures below the safe margins,” said Ruth Griffin, co-chair of Bush’s 2000 campaign steering committee in New Hampshire. “If he isn’t concerned, and we strong believers in the Bush administration aren’t concerned, we must have blinders on.”

“We’ve got nine Democrats out there beating up on him. That’s the problem,” said Joyce Terhes of Maryland, a member of the 165-person RNC.

The story goes on to quote RNC members as saying the polls reflect lack of confidence in his advisors, not in Bush. Ummm nope. I think the American people are FINALLY starting to wake up and realize that the SCOTUS selected a president that is a liar, a cheat and an oil hungry warmonger. Slowly, ever so slowly, the people are waking up. The GOP should be afraid - especially if Howard Dean gets the Democratic nomination. I would pay GOOD GOOD money to see Dean and W face off in an unscripted debate on live national TV. I want to see Dean ask Bush his 16 questions and watch Bush twist in the wind…

That would be one of the happiest moments of my life, right next to Howard Dean (or any Democrat really) being elected the next President of the United States.

We Killed Saddam’s Sons. Again. How Convenient

So we killed two of Saddam’s sons. Again. What is this, the third time we’ve done that? And this will change our situation in Iraq how?

It’s amazing that as soon as Bush has been started to actually be CRITICIZED by the Right Wing Media that POOF! we killed Saddam’s sons. I’d be willing to bet a good chunk of change this happened a bit ago when his ratings were okay and saved for a day he’d need the popularity boost.

But really how much will this change things? Will the Iraqi people now suddenly be happy we’re still there? Will the attacks on American soldiers that are killing at least a soldier a day stop? What, really, is the big deal abotu his sons being killed? They were on some deck of propaganda cards?

The Indianapolis Star has a big huge headline about this today. Hmmm people seem to forget that Osama bin Laden is still alive and recruiting terrorists and makign plans. He’s the guy we should be worried about> What happened to getting him dead or alive? WHen was the last time Bush even uttered his name? Oh yeah, and while we’re on the subject of people that are still alive that Bush wants dead, Saddam is still alive too.

So what’s the big deal with killing two of his sons? Is it relaly going to turn the tide in Iraq in our favor? Is it going to stop Americans from being killed ther eevery day in a war built on lies? Will it magically make all of Bush’s lies disappear?

Well, check out the news today… I guess it did make his lies disappear from alot of papers and news outlets…. But as soon as the people realize Americans are STILL dieing over there and mroe of Bush’s lies become exposed, the shit will hit the fan again for Bush. I can only hope that America wakes up and actually pays attention for once.

Will the death of his sons change the fact that an October report from the NIE said:

“Saddam, if sufficiently desperate, might decide that only an organization such as al Qaeda, . . . already engaged in a life-or-death struggle against the United States, could perpetrate the type of terrorist attack that he would hope to conduct,” one key judgment of the estimate said.

It went on to say that Hussein might decide to take the “extreme step” of assisting al Qaeda in a terrorist attack against the United States if it “would be his last chance to exact vengeance by taking a large number of victims with him.”
(source:Oct. Report Said Defeated Hussein Would Be Threat )

The report goes on to say, by some estimates, that Saddam would not work with terrorists like bin Laden unless he was cornered and close to losign his grip on his country. Good idea. So let’s PUSH HIM INTO THAT. Great thinking there, Bushy. But I guess that’s okay, because “The president of the United States is not a fact-checker.” (actual quote from an administration official). Nice to know the “leader” of the free world who leads us into pre-emptive wars and pisses off our allies isn’t a fucking fact checker. The Supreme Court might as well have made Mayor McCheese president. At least he’d probably be a “fact checker”.

Christ on a cracker, we’re being led by a bunch of crazies that are so obsessed with oil and their own little pwoer grabs they’ll do anything - even if it puts the nation MORE at risk of terror attacks.
