Indiana State Democratic Party State Convention : The Main Event
Hopefully my battery lasts for the whole thing. We'll see. Stay tuned to this post for updates, I might be putting the laptop into hibernation now and then to save battery.
12pm : Started off with Cheese Factor 11, playing that annoying Chumbawumba song that goes "I get knocked down, but I get up again...." Oy.
First Speaker : Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson
I think this guy can be governor in 2008, but maybe that's just me. It's tough for an Indianapolis politician to win statewide but if anyone can do it he can. The polls say the US is on the wrong track. The polls say Indiana is on the wrong track. This doesn't mean Hoosiers have given up on the State. It also doesn't mean the people hate our current leaders or the party in power. SOme Democrats, even in this room, we just have to show up in November - that is not true. What these polls show is people want things to be better. The haters and the dividers are not going to make things better, on either side of the party. People will support those they believe are on their side, regardless of party.
Ideas are the key. "A positive program." Gain the support of the people by sincerelywanting to work with them to make things better. Those who work together and collaborate, across party lines, get things done.
(Ed: I agree to a point here. There's only so far we can work with the current GOP and tiem and time again over the last 5 years we have been shown that when we show good faith to the GOP in power, they take advantage of that and stab bipartisanship in the back)
Give the people of Indiana a reason to hope for the future and that we have thesuperior ideas. "THere is a better wya to govern." "If we do this, we will celebrate victories fo rmany many Novembers to come"
