URGENT: Call Bayh on The Specter Bill (S.2453)

Hoosiers! Call Senator Bayh’s office and urge him not to support Arlen Specer’s S.2453 For the best reasons why to be against this bill, check out Glenn Greenwald, a good FDL post linking to the Greenwald post and containing some good talking points for phone calls.

According to the latest list on FDL, the responses from Bayh’s office are that he’s undecided.

Tell him if he has any hope of being President someday he better not vote for this bill. If he were to support this bill, it would be 1000 times worse than anything he’s done before this.

(Lugar is also wavering, but he’ll talk a big game about it and then vote for it anyway)

Call the Capitol switch board, 888-355-3588, and ask to be transferred to Bayh’s office. Be as simple as urging the Senator to not support this bill, or do some reading and try and engage them in discussion and ask how the Senator is leaning on this bill.

If you all think I’m not a Bayh fan now, just wait if he votes for this one.

If Democrats won’t stand up to the erosion of Constitutional checks and balances and the transformation of President Bush into King George, what good are they? Then there’s the obsequious toad Specter himself, who seems to think we should thank the King for his kindness rather than rebel against him: President Bush’s record of seeking to expand Article II power has been a hallmark of his administration. The president and vice president have vociferously argued that the administration had the authority for the program without any judicial review. Bush’s personal commitment to submit his program to FISC is therefore a major breakthrough. [...]
