Damn you internets. Damn you to hell.

I really hate the internets right now. They are making me do things no sane person should do.

lolheroes

Someone please stop me.

Lolst

Fuck, I’m sorry. I just can’t help it. An idea gets in my head and just burns there until I let it out.

lolst polar bear!

lolst hobbit

I am so sorry.

Of course if you have any of your own or ideas, feel free to comment.

What error code? What. What? Exactly.

I just want to share the joy of working in software. Something that The Kids can look forward to when they are in a cubicle 40+ hours a week. Posted this at Worse Than Failure but figured some of my readers might get a kick out of it as well…

Error: Enable Job
Warning: Number: -2147467259
Error: ########### Error -112: Client Error — What

Product name redacted.

I feel like I’m working inside of some Abbott and Costello sketch.

Tester: What’s this error code?

Developer: What.

Tester: What?

Developer: Exactly!

Tester: I’m confused. What is this error?

Developer: Yes

Tester: Yes? Yes isn’t an error.

Developer: No…. what.

Tester: I said yes isn’t an error.

Developer: What is the error.

Tester: That’s what I’m trying to find out!!!!

<Tester collapses in a heap. Developer kicks him while he is down.>

This is all your fault, Ricky. I hope you’re happy with what you’ve done.

Last.fm bought by CBS

Crossposted at my last.fm journal.

So apparently Last.fm was bought by CBS.

Marvelous. I have predictions.

  1. It will start off good with a cash infusion for some dream features the creators have been wanting to do for awhile
  2. CBS will start to get antsy and want a return on investment
  3. last.fm will try to bridge the gap between a vibrant Web 2.0 community and making money for its new corporate masters. The old users will stick around but will start feeling the changes and looking for alternatives.
  4. after a year or two of trying a best of both worlds approach, CBS will demand changes to make them more money. The old users will start leaving and the users left will be new and know nothing of the community standards.
  5. The users that are left (mayeb higher numbers but less buy in and attachment to the community) will turn the social aspect into a wasteland of stupid comments, bickering and flamewars. Last.fm will slowly wither on the vine as the site transitions from community driven and vibrant web 2.0 to yet another corporate attempt at vibrant web 2.0 that fails miserably

Ah well.

For those curious, Flickr is currently somewhere between steps 3 and 4 after their purchance by Yahoo.

Update: MySpace is most defintiely a 5+ on the above timeline.

Linux Car Crashes

This is too damn funny.

Linux fans didn’t exactly get the publicity they were hoping for at the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, when the so-called “Linux car” they had sponsored proved to be the first in the race to crash, ultimately causing it to finish dead last.

Cries of “but… but… but… Linux NEVER CRASHES!” were heard across the land.

Kittens!

Kittens!

One of two new litters of kittens back home at my parents’. I’m considering taking one home in a couple weeks. I still miss Monkey. Alot. But I miss having a cat around the apartment alot, too.

Now I just need a name…. The one in the middle (with the white leg) is the one I’m thinking of taking home. Possible names for her:
*Ninja
*Kunoichi (the name for a female ninja)
*Leela (from Futurama)

Any other ideas?

Accordion Hero!

[Update: Sadly I had to remove this. The taker of the photo loved it but the subject requested that she take down the original and therefore I need to take this down. I love creative commons which means I have to respect it when requested to remove something as well. I’m going to work sometime on a NEW Accordion Hero cover at some point.]

So I was inspired. Had this idea a few days ago and finally decided to make it happen. Got the bright idea to make a Guitar Hero spoof called Accordion Hero.

Thanks to michele*lee at flickr for tagging this accordion player photo [link moved for above reasons] as a creative commons license.

This is naturally creative commons, Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike

Dear NBC

Dear NBC/WTHR Channel 13,
Please fix the damn sound levels on your HD broadcasts. I’m tired of having to turn my sound way up during shows and then the commercials blasting my eardrums. This has been especially bad during the 50 incarnations of Law & Order.

Missing Monkey

Friday cat blogging

Originally uploaded by xtrarant.

**sigh** horrible news. My cat, Monkey, got out Friday night and hasn’t come back. I’m really broken up by this. I’ve had him for over 5 years and he’s been here for me for lots of great and bad times. I miss him desperately.

I’ve put up fliers and let my apartment office know. I’m going to call vets offices, the humane society and animal control tomorrow.

Send out some good vibes for the best cat ever please.
