A sign I am getting old: An album I’ve been waiting on for eleven years comes out next month. Portishead’s third studio album, Third, drops April 28th. I’ve found a few tracks on YouTube and.. wow. This album might just have the potential to live up to an 11 year wait.
I like them all pretty much, with “The Rip” being my favorite. “Machine Gun” is alot different but grew on me. I’m really interested to hear the studio version of “We Carry On” - that one could end up being one of my favorites.
So when is Theremin Hero coming out for the XBox 360 featuring Portishead?

Update: Bonus - Portishead’s cover/remix of Tom Jones’s “Motherless Child” is absolutely fantastic.

He means it. He actually means it when he blabbers on about wanting a Chinatown in Indianapolis. It wasn’t just a one off goofy statement.
Our roads are more cratered than the moon, ALlisonville Rd over 465 has had a lane closed for nearly a month without any signs of it being fixed, the new property tax bill is going to cost IPS tens of millions of dollars, and this schmuck keeps talking about building a Chinatown in Indianapolis.
Great Zombie Jesus, this man is completely clueless.
Via Masson’s Blog, this choice little quote from a guy in Delphi re: the property tax bill Mitch Daniels is due to sign today and the fallout for local communities and schools:
Bill Hasser, a Delphi resident, said he is happy to see property tax relief but doesn’t want to see cuts result from it, especially in the schools.
And there you go. People don’t want to pay property taxes, but they also don’t want to see cuts. Ummm Mr. Hasser (and other property tax whiners *cough*gregballard*cough*), services cost money. money has to come from somewhere. Schools aren’t free. Parks aren’t free. Roads not full of potholes that could swallow a compact car aren’t free. You see - taxes, those things you hate hate hate so much, pay for these things. SO you have a choice: good schools, roads and local services and paying taxes* or shit schools, crap roads, terrible to non-existant local services and low property taxes.
Your call.
*I was probably one of two people who, in response to a polling call before the Mayor’s race, said our tax rate is probably too low. But then again, I have a grasp that things cost money and schools aren’t run by magical fairies and paid for in pixie dust.
In honor of the passing of author/futurist/all aroudn badass Arthur C. Clarke, I’m going to share my short but somewhat humorous 2001: A Space Odyssey story.
I have a younger brother (2 years younger) and younger sister (8 years younger). Back when my sister was probably 8 years old or so my brother and I were home alone with her during what was probably a summer day. 2001 was on the TV and being the nerds we are, my brother and I wanted to watch it. Being (in our minds) good brothers we wanted to introduce our little sister to a good movie. So we made her sit down and watch it with us.
To this day my sister cannot watch that movie. She says it bored her to tears and she was too young to understand anything but the fact that it was really weird and had monkeys in it.
So remember kids: Don’t show your little sister 2001 until they are old enough to comprehend it. Otherwise they will hold it against you for the rest of your life.
Inspired by this brilliant post mapping Ludacris’ song “Area Code” showing geographically the location of his hoes, I decided to map Johnny Cash’s “I’ve Been Everywhere” and compare the two:

- Either Johnny Cash was much more well traveled than Ludacris, or Luda is selective about where he gets his hoes.
- There is potential for a hit Johnny Cash vs. Ludacris mashup album in the deep south, Louisville, Baltimore, eastern Nebraska, Seattle, Houston and a small part of NE New Jersey.

I made you a chinatownz… but I eated it.
