Random Dude From Delphi Unwittingly Sums Up Property Tax Debate
Via Masson's Blog, this choice little quote from a guy in Delphi re: the property tax bill Mitch Daniels is due to sign today and the fallout for local communities and schools:
Bill Hasser, a Delphi resident, said he is happy to see property tax relief but doesn’t want to see cuts result from it, especially in the schools.
And there you go. People don't want to pay property taxes, but they also don't want to see cuts. Ummm Mr. Hasser (and other property tax whiners *cough*gregballard*cough*), services cost money. money has to come from somewhere. Schools aren't free. Parks aren't free. Roads not full of potholes that could swallow a compact car aren't free. You see - taxes, those things you hate hate hate so much, pay for these things. SO you have a choice: good schools, roads and local services and paying taxes* or shit schools, crap roads, terrible to non-existant local services and low property taxes.
Your call.
*I was probably one of two people who, in response to a polling call before the Mayor's race, said our tax rate is probably too low. But then again, I have a grasp that things cost money and schools aren't run by magical fairies and paid for in pixie dust.
