The Next Big Sitcom

Okay so this is probably inappropriate given that The Pope just died yesterday, but His Popeness’ illness reminded my of something from a few years ago I’ve been meaning to write down since then.

About three years ago or so my friend Liz and I were talking and as usual went off the Deep End Of Funny. We came up with the best idea for a sitcom ever.

What happens when downsizing in the Catholic Church leads to The Pope’s being laid off and having to live with his cousin Vince in New York City?

Oh You Pope!, the season’s freshest and funniest new sitcom!

When The Pope (Abe Vigoda) is let go from the Church for “rightsizing” he’s got nowhere to turn except his third cousin Vince (Tony Danza) who lives in New York City. Follow The Pope as he readjusts to life outside the Vatican and interacts with New Yorkers, from Mikey the crazy neighbor (Wil Wheaton) to Marcia the owner of the coffee shop in their building (Cybil Shepherd).

In the pilot episode The Pope tries to find a job, learns his cousin isn’t exactly the neatest roommate around, Mikey shows him his cockroach farm he says will “rocket me to riches baby! The MOON!” and Vince catches The Pope on the Internet trying to buy a $5,000 velvet Jesus – prompting the year’s newest hit catchphrase “Oh you Pope!” But all is well when Marcia gives The Pope her Velvet Jesus.

The Pillsberry Popeboy

Okay, so a logn time ago Liz and I were talking and we came up with the Pillsberry Popeboy. yes, we are going to hell. She finally drew it for me and I colored it in Photoshop and added the text.

So now to officially unveil the Pillsberry Popeboy……

We’re going to hell. Heh. And the tagline, “Jesus Rose and so will your biscuits” was her idea, and it was genius. Hope that gave some of you a good chuckle.
