X-Tra Rant Taking Myself Way Too Seriously Since 1999

[Random Name Generator] My old Gennames random name generator is working again!

So in my complete abandonment of this site, I'd also abandoned the old PHP based random name generator that I wrote what I think is 9 years ago now. It's not pretty, but it works. Or at least, it works again after being broken for nearly a year.

I just had a sudden flashback to the old Forum2000.org. Does anyone remember that? It doesn't exist anymore and the only thing I could really find was this Slashdot post from 2000 about it being shut down. Damn that site was funny. Thankfully there is always the Internet Archive. How cool would it be for someone to resurrect Forum2000 for the Web 2.0 age?

DailyLit is awesome. I just subscribed to "Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions" by Edwin Abbott. (via Wil Wheaton)

Netflix now on Sidebar

Added a new sidebar element to the right. It shows what movie I have at home from Netflix currently and the next five that are up in my queue. Pretty slick plugin. You can get it here.

Finally signed up for netflix. Doing the one at a time unlimited per month plan. Figure that's enough for me. Anyway, who all has Netflix? Wanna be my Netflix friend?

Clickity here if you have Netflix and wanna be my friend. :)

Update: ohhh very cool. Netflix's "Watch Now" feature combined with my desktop taht's hooked up to my big screen means I can instantly watch some movies. not in fulll full screen, but enough to watch a movie now and then if I don't need it to be in the best quality. Sweet. I'm trying it out now to see how it goes.

My Maps

Google has this new thing with GOogle Maps called My Maps. I made a map of Indianapolis with things I like to do or places I like to go. Check out: Indianapolis Things To Do

Just for the hell of it, my XBox360 gamertag information:

Annnnnd of course XBox Live goes down for maintenance for 14 hours the day after I post this.

Google Reader

After reading a post over at Brad Sucks about Google Reader, I had to give it a spin. Boy am I impressed. It's joined my list of permanant Firefox tabs (now includes Yahoo Mail, GMail, Google Reader and Google Calendar). My RSS subscriptions have actually went up now that I have Reader to keep them better organized. You should definitely give it a go if you have lots of RSS feeds you keep track of.

On Julia Carson

Alright, so I've seen this crap too much. Republicans in Indianapolis (and even some Democrats) keep accusing Julia Carson of not showing up for votes and having "one of the worst attendance records in the House." That's just not true and I decided to prove it. How, and the results, below the fold.

Performancing for Firefox

I'm giving a new blog editor a try - Performancing for Firefox.

Once installed, just hit F8 or click the little
pencil icon at the bottom right of your browser window to bring up the
blog editor and easily post to your WordPress, MovableType or Blogger

So far so good. I'm liking it, except it doesn't handle nested categories well. Just realized another thing it's missing - my Gallery2 plugin for the
editor. But if I want to do any posts about photos from my Gallery2
install, I can use the regular WordPress editor. But I love the blog editor - it appears in a split pane in the bottom of firefox, so you can look at websites while you do a blog post without having to switch between browsers.
